How do I add a map?
All that’s required to add a map to a timeline is one event with a location in the timeline. Click Display map on this timeline? and the map will be drawn underneath any background image, so you’ll want to make a background image translucent enough to read the map.
Check Display markers? to show a pin for each event. Click Display routes? if you want Google to calculate a driving route between each event. Note that the routes are based on the order of the events in the timeline, so a route created from The Longest Day timeline wouldn’t make sense (the Allies didn’t drive back and forth from one beach to another), but if you were visiting Normandy and wanted to create a driving route from beach to beach, that would make sense.
You can also select the Map Type from the drop-down menu.
Unlike the Location Inspector, the navigation controls are on the map in the timeline. The D-pad lets you reposition the map, althought it’s a lot easier to hold down the SHIFT key when you move the map. Clicking the center of the D-pad will recenter the map and the zoom dial zooms the map. The D-pad and zoom dial only affect your current session.
